Topic: Take Your Pressing Very Seriously – Part 2
Text: Philippians 3:13-16
[13] Brethren, I count not myself to have apprehended: but this one thing I do, forgetting those things which are behind, and reaching forth unto those things which are before,
[14] I press toward the mark for the prize of the high calling of God in Christ Jesus.
We would be looking at a second part of this topic. By the inspiration of the Holy Ghost, we will be further delving into taking seriously the issue of PRESSING!
From the passage above, We can see and understand the statements by Apostle Paul on Pressing towards the Goal. To better understand the scriptures, we will dissect the verse below:
1. ‘I count not myself to have apprehended…’
Apostle Peter was iterating that He’s saying that he does not have all these things together. He understood his limitations as a human and the fact that we as Christians strive to perfection by the grace of God.
He further repeated that he does not count Himself an expert at all no matter the level he seemed to have attained in his walk with God. He openly communicated his shortcomings as a human and how it was not his priority for self aggrandizement but for the pursuit of the mark.
2. Forgetting those things which are behind.
For a way forward, there must be a clear letting go of the past. Apostle Paul mentioned that he is NOT TURNING BACK. It is important to let go of the past. Your current situation determines a lot. If the rapture were to happen now, a sinner who has repented and is saved will go to heaven and his past forgotten. It is written, ‘…old things have passed away…’. It is your current position with God that determines your level and rate of collection from Him, not your past exploits. Do not hold on to the past. Instead, concentrate on the present.
3. ‘I press toward…’
The act of pressing, as explained in the first part of this series, means to make an effort. It is to keep making effort in increasing proportion.
Pressing will mean different things to different people. To a professional, it will mean putting in efforts to get the work done. Why then, as Christians, are we not PRESSING?
The Message Version of the Scripture says, ‘I’m off and running, and I’m not turning back’. Turning back is saying NO to the Mark. It is saying YES to distractions. Do not turn back to distractions.
You need to keep on pressing. Pressing is CONTINUOUS. Pressing is synonymous to CONSISTENCY. Pressing is synonymous with PRODUCTIVITY. Pressing is likened to taking personal responsibility. You can’t press for another person, you cannot trust God for another person. TAKE PERSONAL RESPONSIBILITY. Personal responsibility makes you look into the future with Hope. The depth of your pressing determines the height of your blessing. Yearn to do more than before.
Think more!
Ask for more, seek to do more and you will become much more relevant and fulfilling.
If you’re willing to go higher, you need to PRESS!
Exertion of pressure is what determines the pleasure.
4. ‘…the mark for the prize of the high calling of God in Christ Jesus’.
TOWARDS THE MARK!
There is a cut off mark. God does not do things haphazardly. The standard of God stands sure. The standard is the MARK! Be conscious of the mark. Unto who much has been invested, much profiting is required.
Beloved check the following issues:
#…A mark of stewardship and faithfulness is required.
For the Mark to be attained. #…There is a minimum level of productivity required. Your productivity is a pointer to your future prosperity.
#….Are you.conscious if the mark of humility. Remember, it is written “humble.yourself in the.sight of God..”
PONDER ON THIS MATTER AND PRAY ABOUT IT.
Let us pray.
