Topic: Discernment of Spiritual Identity.
Text: Matthew 16:13-17
” When Jesus came into the coasts of Cæsarea Philippi, he asked his disciples, saying, Whom do men say that I the Son of man am? [14] And they said, Some say that thou art John the Baptist: some, Elias; and others, Jeremias, or one of the prophets. [15] He saith unto them, But whom say ye that I am? [16] And Simon Peter answered and said, Thou art the Christ, the Son of the living God. [17] And Jesus answered and said unto him, Blessed art thou, Simon Bar-jona: for flesh and blood hath not revealed it unto thee, but my Father which is in heaven.”
Greetings of higher height to you dearly beloved reader and friend wherever you may be joining us for today’s edition of your firerised feast of the word and prayers worldover.
We connect with the word of life in Revelation 4:1
as follows:
” After this I looked, and, behold, a door was opened in heaven: and the first voice which I heard was as it were of a trumpet talking with me; which said, Come up hither, and I will shew thee things which must be hereafter.”
God of all heanvens will open the heavens for you like He did for John the beloved.
God will speak from heaven into your life.
Therefore great revelation of heaven will distinguish you for good in Jesus’ name. AMEN & AAAMEN.
In this edition we will share on Discernment of spiritual identity. With specific reference to our scripture above. The Lord Jesus asked his disciples who men thought he was, and later who his disciples thought he was.
It was Peter who said ” You are the Christ, the son of the living God”. Jesus was excited and delighted.
Beloved reader, you need to pay attention to what Jesus said:
#1…. Flesh and blood did not revealed this to Peter at all.
#2…..But the heavenly father did.
God being an equal opportunity employer is capable of revealing identities of people around you to you anytime and anywhere.
Do you know that the spiritual identity of somebody can be completely different if not even a direct opposite of what you know the person for.
DANGERS OF IGNORANCE OF SPIRITUAL IDENTITY.
1. You can end up rejecting the person you should draw closer and who would lift up your hand either now or in the future.
2. If you lack discernment of spiritual identity, you could end up carrying a serpent in your bossom like Samson and many others in history.
3. Discernment of spirit will help you to address and approach people correctly and appropriately.
4. Discernment of spiritual identity will help you to prioritise rightly. On the mount of transfiguration, Peter and John correctly identified Moses and Elijah, see what am talking about as stated below in Matthew 17:4.
” Then answered Peter, and said unto Jesus, Lord, it is good for us to be here: if thou wilt, let us make here three tabernacles; one for thee, and one for Moses, and one for Elias”
Did you notice that in II Kings 2:12, Elisha identified Elijah rightly and the mantle fell which changed the level of Elisha from a son of the Prophet to a substantive Prophet. That is the pointer to the spiritual identity of Elijah!!!.
In Matthew 12:47-50, the spiritual identity of the disciples was revealed. How?
Somebody came to Jesus to inform him that, his brothers, Mummy and other family members were looking for him. His response to them is our revelation today, he said:
” Then one said unto him, Behold, thy mother and thy brethren stand without, desiring to speak with thee. [48] But he answered and said unto him that told him, Who is my mother? and who are my brethren? [49] And he stretched forth his hand toward his disciples, and said, Behold my mother and my brethren! [50] For whosoever shall do the will of my Father which is in heaven, the same is my brother, and sister, and mother.”
This is the spiritual identity of the disciples even today. This is who we are.
Can you now imagine somebody having a family member and does not know him or her in the real sense of it!!! How do you explain this anomaly?
Yet as you read this many people are living in the same house and even sleeping on the same bed with their greatest spiritual antagonist without knowing. That is why we must pray seriously to God for spiritual discernment.
MEDITATE SERIOUSLY ON THIS MATTER AND PRAY FERVENTLY ABOUT IT.
Let us pray.
REVIVAL PROVOKING PRAYER BULLETS.
1. I John 1:5- Father I worship you very passionately because you are the embodiment of light, glory forever goes to you sir in Jesus’ name.
2. Matthew 16:17- Father in heaven, in your awesome power, disclose the spiritual identity of everyone in my circle of influence to me fully in Jesus’ name.
3. Matthew 16:16- Father, ever faithful Lord mercifully give me a new and up-to-date revelation of Jesus that will radically change my spiritual and ministerial life in Jesus’ name.
4. Matthew 17:4- Father in the same way that you helped Peter to identify Elijah and Moses on the mountain, please help me to identify the angel you are sending to me with much needed help in Jesus’ name.
5. John 1:17- Father you are the giver of good and perfect gift, mercifully baptise me afresh with the spirit of discernment in Jesus’ name.
6. Deuteronomy 29:29-Father, secret things belongs to you, don’t let the secrets of my antagonist be secret to me anymore in Jesus name.
